What is BCST?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, non invasive, hands-on treatment for the whole body. Performed on a treatment table, the client is fully clothed and the touch is gentle and still. The nature of the work makes it accessible for all, including babies and the elderly. It is a profound work providing an approach to being with the body, mind and spirit that engages the body's own self-healing mechanisms in a most remarkable way. For this reason, there is a growing demand for this complementary work to support those who are chronically or severely ill, as well as, as a preventative therapy.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapists understand how an optimally functioning healthy nervous system performs. We are trained for years on how to use acute perception skills to perceive subtle physiological changes. We are also aware of the energetic map that underlies one's basic health and symptomology. We believe that health is never lost no matter what the ailment. The treatment focuses on supporting the health of the whole body, especially the nervous system. This is the system that dictates all of the body's functioning, constantly sending and receiving information to maintain balance.
BCST creates an environment in which the body system can address imbalances, preventing further damage. and returning the body to wellness. The practitioner begins by listening to the body through their hands. This is called palpation. In every living thing there are underlying rhythms present. The practitioner palpates these subtle signs of health within the tissues, organs and fluids and pays particular attention to the rhythm of spinal fluid. A skilled practitioner will calm the central nervous system allowing stuck patterns, physical and otherwise to unwind and dissipate. The body rediscovers a sense of safety and ease felt not only in the muscles and bones, but within the flow of fluids, the bodily diaphragms, breath and mind.
In this deeper state of stillness and strength, the body can effectively prioritise and address it's health needs. The practitioner aids their client by developing inner resources to support treatment work and outer resources for daily life.
The body as a whole is again free to express a greater degree of health and wellness.
"Our bodies adapt constantly to cope with difficult circumstances, whether they be the challenges of daily life, illness, an operation or trauma. However, the body is not always able to determine when the stressful event has passed and may remain in a contracted, stressed state, causing tension, pain, anxiety and illness. The longer the pattern of this experience stays contracted in the body, the more chronic and severe the effects will be."
